Bold Blue Brush Interpretation #1
Bold Blue Brush Interpretation #1
Acrylic on 36x36x3 in. hand-built wood panel.
Signed and dated on back - Unframed, ready to hang
This piece is a manifestation of my affinity for a smaller painting that was created by one of my adult children (see thumbnail #5). I missed the opportunity to claim that painting. I liked it so much that I decided to create my own version of it.
It was a simple painting consisting of three marks and three colors. Most notably the bold blue brushstroke that was pulled and twisted in an upward curve from near the lower left corner towards the upper right corner before returning in an opposing curve back the the lower left corner until the paintbrush left the canvas.
For my interpretation, I began by building a panel that was three times larger than the original canvas. After sealing and prepping the wood, I used multiple layers of light acrylic wash to create a background that resembled the aged parchment of an ancient scroll. I then overlaid the background with 42 individually masked and painted (broken)crosses. Finally, I painted the three main elements - including the Bold Blue Brushstroke. Each element has a unique texture.
This painting has been sealed under multiple coats of varnish for protection and longevity.
