The 2020 People's Gallery @ Austin City Hall

In celebration of the arts and visual artists, the city of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division has been supporting the local arts through the People’s Gallery exhibition in Austin’s city hall.

Completed in 2004, this beautifully sculpted building was designed by Antoine Predock and Cotera + Reed Architects and is an exercise in angles and light. The building is finished in concrete, natural stone and copper cladding. The exterior finish continues throughout the interior where is is accented by numerous works of art by artists living and working in Austin and surrounding areas.

This year, each piece was carefully selected from a pool of over a thousand submissions by more than 300 artists. These works will be on loan to the city’s temporary art collection for one year. Most of the works are for sale by the artists. A few lucky artists will have their pieces voted as “The People’s Choice” via public ballot. The People’s Choice is an award that allows the chosen artist’s work to be purchased as part of the city’s permanent collection.

The Peoples Gallery will exhibit its latest works from March 6, 2020 through January 1, 2021 and is free to the public.

For a list complete list of artworks, the artists and specific display locations, see the 2020 People’s gallery Exibition Guide online or pick up a copy at city hall.
